Customer Service

The roll cutter includes several mechanical and software adjustments to accommodate a wide variety of materials, including paper and film. If not properly adjusted, you may experience issues, but if the Troubleshooting section does not solve your issue, our customer support team is happy to help. Contact staff@krexil.com or call 551-600-1400 M-F 9am-5pm EST. Please provide your menu settings, material type, thickness, width, cut length and roll diameter. Krexil welcomes your feedback and requests for customized versions.

Important Safety Guidelines
  • Read all instructions before using.
  • Do not use the device for anything other than the intended use.
  • Place the device on a flat, firm, stable surface.
  • Disconnect power before making any adjustments or changes.
  • Keep the device out of reach of children.
  • This device is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience, unless supervised by a person responsible for their safety.
  • See Replacing Blade when installing or changing the cutting blade.
  • Do not operate while under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication that may affect your ability to use the tool.
  • Keep hands, hair, etc. away from moving parts. Models with 48" width or more have stronger feed motors.
  • Print and save these safety instructions.
Avoid Damage
  • Stop tightening screws in plastic when you feel increasing resistance.
  • Do not bend the 1/2 x 1/16" metal hold-down strips - they have one or more bends that are required for proper function.
  • Never unplug or plug in motors with the power cord connected — this can damage the motor driver circuit.
  • When manually moving the carriage, do so gently to prevent the motor generating back current into the driver. Similarly, do not pull media through the pinch rollers quickly.
Inspect Shipment

Please check for and promptly report any damage to shipping boxes or shipping tubes. Contact staff@krexil.com with photos of any damage.

You should have:

  1. (1) Side panel with controller and 1 or 2 stepper motors
  2. (1) Side panel with labels and side insert
  3. (6) round metal bars
  4. (2) square metal bars
  5. (2) hold-down strips (some models have intentional bends and a slight arc)
  6. (1) Small box containing:
    1. (1) power pack
    2. (1) carriage with two carriage arms
    3. (3 or 4) rubber O-rings
    4. (1) black timing belt
    5. (1) small bag of parts
    6. (1) blade assembly
    7. (2) roll clamps
    8. (2) round inserts for 3 inch core rolls

Final cutter assembly

If you received a shipping tube
  1. Lay the tube flat on a table.
  2. At each end, rotate the small tabs to release the locking ring from the metal disc.
  3. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the locking ring away from the tube wall and remove the metal disc.
  4. Caution: Do not bend the hold-down strip — it has a bend at one end and, on larger models, a gentle arc throughout, which is required for proper function.
  5. Slide the contents out horizontally onto the table.
  6. Remove bars from the shipping retainers one by one, then remove any tape.
Unpack box(es)
  1. Open the shipping box or boxes and remove the cutter parts, small parts box, power supply, and hardware.
  2. Place the side panels, bars, strips, and small parts on a work table.

Frame
3) Using the short (15mm) screws attach 3 narrow round bars to left side (left in photo) and tighten. LOOSELY screw rear bar (top in photo) to right side.
4) Locate the drive/O-ring bar with a square hole at one end. Slide large rubber O-rings onto the bar - 2 for 12-24" models, 3 for 36-48", 4 for the 60" model. Mate the bar with the feed motor cam and to the hole in the right side. VERY LOOSELY screw the front lower bar to the right side panel. Locate the feed idler bar that has bearings that turn freely at each end and mount it on top of the drive/O-ring bar and lock in with a screw into the upper thin bar. Tighten all 3 screws.
Position the rear square bar as shown.
Insert the bar left end into the left side insert. The right end should drop into place to level the bar.
Carriage
Snap carriage onto top bar upside down.
Handle blade assembly with gloves.
Rotate the carriage to point to you and snap bearing into clamp.
Rotate carriage so blade is pointing down. Gently lift the carriage spring arm near the rear square bar to clear the bar.
Gently slide carriage to left.
Bars
For 24-60 in models position the front square bar as shown. For the 12 in model remove the small screw from the side insert and slide the bar through the smaller window from the outside.
Seat left end of front bar so it lays level. You will need to push up on the carriage bearing. For the 12 in model replace the screw and washer removed in the prior step.
Locate the rear hold-down strip without an angled notch.
Position as shown.
Slide the rear hold-down strip under the rear bearing of the carriage and into the left side insert. If the right end sticks out from the side insert by ~1/4 inch you did not get the left end into the side insert. When the right end is about flush with the outside of the side insert, lift up the center of the rear hold-down strip about an inch while pressing down on the right end to get the right end to seat in its groove.
Locate the front hold-down strip with a bend and a notch and mount it on the front square bar.
Slide the front hold-down strip towards the carriage.
Press down to guide the front hold-down strip under the hold-down bearing and then slide into the left side insert. Notice that the front hold-down strip has a gentle bend that allows material to pass through - do not change the bend.
Belt
Gently slide carriage to center and insert ~1.5 inch of belt in carriage at an angle with belt ridges up.
Press belt into groove.
Final step of belt insertion
Locate the shown idle bearing module. Insert it into the rectangular cutout from the outside of the panel with the small flange pointing up. Thread the belt under the bearing (as shown) and then (not shown) around the bearing and back over the carriage.

Remove the hold-down strips to prepare to thread the roll material. You will need to lift the center of each hold-down strip about an inch to release the right end of the hold-down strip from its groove.

Test and configure

Test motors
  1. Move to the front of the machine and press the red [X] reset button.
  2. Verify that the display shows “Length” and you hear a few beeps.
  3. User the up/down buttons to enter 1.
  4. Verify that the carriage moves when you press the [✔] button.
  5. Verify that the material feed bars turn when you press the [✔] button again.
Configure 48 inch and wider feed motor torque
  1. Disconnect power before opening the controller.
  2. Open the controller.
  3. Turn the small potentiometer on the Y axis driver counterclockwise (CCW) to reduce torque or clockwise (CW) to increase it.
Select inch vs mm etc.
  1. Navigate to the Unit setting and select your desired unit of measure and press [-] to escape.
Set roll width
  1. Navigate to the Width setting and enter your roll width.
Adjust carriage clamp
  1. Spread the small C-clamp and snap on to the carriage travel bar at far right.
  2. Loosen the C-clamp screw so it slides easily and gently slide it with the carriage to the far left.
  3. Press [✔] to properly position the c-clamp.
  4. Without moving the clamp, rotate it to not touch the belt and tighten the screw so it won’t move.
  5. Press [ ✔] and verify the carriage moves to touch the clamp and back to the feed motor side panel. If you hear a grinding noise go to step 1.

Included accessories

Two small L-shaped brackets with wood screws, machine screws and nuts are provided to attach the machine to a worktable for safety.

A provided guide fence can be installed to help prevent the material moving due to cut pressure. Install the fence only if you experience the material getting out of line with the roll. Clamp it onto the lower rear bar with the provided screw and nut. Position it near the right side of the roll when viewed from the front of the machine.

A small plastic rectangle is provided to offer an alternate way to hold the blade. For some types of material this method provides a cleaner cut. To use this method, using gloves for safety, disassemble the standard blade assembly and attach the blade to the rectangle with the spacer washers. Remove the clamp from the carriage and replace it with the new assembly. For unusual materials, Krexil can provide additional variations of the fixed blade holders.
