KREXIL'S PAPER-ROLL CUTTER FAQs
What sizes does the Krexil CNC Paper Roll Cutter come in?
The Krexil CNC roll cutter is available in 12”, 24”, 36”, 48” and 60” widths. Choose a model that matches your widest roll — each model handles rolls up to its rated width.
How do I choose the right size roll cutter for my operation?
Match the model width to your widest roll. For gift wrap and retail packaging, the 24” or 36” models are the most common choice. Fulfillment and warehouse operations handling wider kraft or industrial film rolls typically use the 36” or 60” models.
What paper and film types does the roll cutter handle?
The roll cutter is compatible with standard paper, wrapping paper, kraft paper, art paper, plastic films, and some elastic films. If you have a specific material in mind, contact us or send a sample for testing.
Can the roll cutter handle plastic film and elastic materials?
Yes. For elastic films, set the Retract menu to 100 (vs. the standard 30) and ensure the O-rings are positioned straight to avoid wobble. Position the roll centered on the bar rather than the standard offset used for paper. And select a model at least 6" wider than your roll.
How accurate is the cut length?
Cut length is programmable in inches, millimeters, or centimeters. If cuts are slightly off from the target, the Adjust menu lets you fine-tune length accuracy for your specific roll and material combination.
How does the Krexil roll cutter save time in production?
The machine automates the cutting process, eliminating manual measuring and cutting. Set the length once, and each press of the cut button delivers a consistent, precise sheet. You can also set a count and let the machine run unattended through a batch. There is also a Just-In-Time Sensor option where each sheet is cut as soon as the last sheet is removed.
What are the advantages over a conventional roll dispenser?
The Krexil cutter offers several advantages:
- Efficiency: Eliminates manual measuring and cutting for every sheet.
- Precision: Delivers clean, straight cuts to a programmed length every time.
- Reduced waste: Cuts to the optimal length, minimizing over-cutting and material loss.
- Batch cutting: Set a count and run unattended through a production batch.
Are replacement blades and accessories available?
Yes. Replacement blades are available through Amazon and other retailers. Optional accessories include a just-in-time sensor (pauses between cuts until sheet is removed), thin material support bar, gravity feed guide, paper guide fence, roll extension, and kickstand.
SHIPPING BOX MAKER FAQs
What is the Krexil Shipping Box Maker?
The Krexil SBM-60 lets you cut and score corrugated cardboard sheets to make custom-sized shipping boxes on demand. Instead of stocking pre-made boxes in multiple sizes, you cut exactly the box you need from flat stock — eliminating void fill and reducing shipping costs.
What size and type of cardboard does it work with?
The SBM-60 works with flat corrugated cardboard sheets. The ideal sheet size is 48 × 48 inches; 36 × 36 inch sheets work for smaller boxes. We recommend 200 lb test corrugated material. 32-ECT material is not recommended based on our testing.
Can I use recycled or salvaged cardboard?
Yes. Used cardboard from existing cartons works well for practice and is suitable for lighter-duty boxes. For shipping fragile or heavier items, use new 200 lb test material for consistent results.
How do I figure out how to cut the cardboard for a specific box size?
Use the free Corrugated Box Designer on the Krexil website. Enter your desired box dimensions and it generates a cutting layout. We recommend starting with a small box (5 × 4 × 3 inches) while learning the process.
CUSTOM BACKSTOP FAQs
What is the Krexil Custom Configured Backstop?
The Krexil backstop is a precision aluminum stop that mounts alongside a stationary saw. It lets you set an exact cut length once and repeat it consistently across many cuts — without re-measuring each time. It’s designed for woodworkers, fabricators, and production shops that make repetitive cross-cuts.
What saws is the backstop compatible with?
The backstop is designed for stationary bandsaws, miter saws, chop saws and others. Installation involves mounting the end supports to your work table, perpendicular to the blade. Always follow the safety guidelines provided by your saw manufacturer.
How do I calibrate the backstop scale?
After mounting, align the scale markings against your tape measure relative to the blade. Test-cut a piece of scrap at a known measurement, then fine-tune by sliding the scale toward or away from the saw until cuts match the scale reading. A second test cut confirms calibration before production use.
PAPER FAQs
What is the difference between butcher paper and kraft paper?
Butcher paper is a strong paper primarily used for wrapping and storing meat due to its ability to retain moisture and exclude air. It is typically white and treated to resist moisture. Kraft paper, on the other hand, is a sturdy brown paper made from chemical pulp produced in the kraft process. It boasts strength and durability, making it suitable for packaging and industrial applications.
Is kraft paper good for shipping?
Kraft paper is an excellent material for shipping due to its high tear resistance, durability, and lightweight nature. It provides effective cushioning and protection for items during transit, helping to reduce shipping costs and safeguard products from scratches and minor impacts.
How is kraft paper used in packaging?
Kraft paper finds versatile applications in packaging across various industries. It is commonly used for wrapping items to protect them from damage while presenting a professional appearance. Additionally, it is employed in making bags, envelopes, providing an eco-friendly and cost-effective packaging solution. Thicker grades of kraft paper are used for heavier items, offering enhanced strength and durability to safeguard products during shipping and storage.
What are the pros and cons of kraft paper packaging?
Kraft paper packaging offers several advantages, including its environmental friendliness, strength, durability, and cost-effectiveness. It is made from renewable resources and is biodegradable, making it an eco-friendly choice for sustainable packaging solutions. However, kraft paper may be susceptible to moisture and water damage, and its visual appeal and customization options may be limited compared to other packaging materials like plastic or glossy paper.
Is kraft paper recycled?
Yes, kraft paper is typically made from recycled materials and is itself recyclable. Its simple composition, free from heavy dyes, bleaches, and other chemicals, makes it easy to recycle, promoting sustainable practices in packaging and reducing waste. Recycling kraft paper helps conserve natural resources and reduce environmental impact, making it a preferred choice for eco-conscious consumers and businesses.
What is paper void fill?
Paper void fill refers to a packaging material used to fill empty spaces in shipping boxes or containers to prevent product movement during transit. It cushions the items, offering protection against shocks and vibrations while minimizing the risk of damage during handling and transportation. Paper void fill is typically made from recycled paper and is biodegradable, making it an environmentally friendly choice for sustainable packaging solutions.
What materials are used in void fill packaging?
Common materials for void fill packaging include crumpled or shredded paper, bubble wrap, air pillows made from plastic, foam peanuts, cornstarch peanuts, and recycled cardboard. Each material offers unique properties to meet specific packaging needs, balancing protection, cost, and environmental considerations. Crumpled or shredded paper is lightweight, recyclable, and biodegradable, making it an eco-friendly choice for void-fill packaging. Bubble wrap and air pillows made from plastic provide superior cushioning and protection against shocks and vibrations, though they are less environmentally friendly. Foam peanuts offer excellent cushioning properties but may be messy and difficult to dispose of. Cornstarch peanuts are biodegradable and can be dissolved in water, reducing waste and environmental impact. Recycled cardboard provides a sustainable and cost-effective void-fill solution, utilizing post-consumer materials to minimize environmental impact. Each material has its unique advantages and limitations, and the choice depends on factors such as product fragility, shipping distance, and environmental considerations.
