Roll Cutter Item Names

These are the standard names used throughout the roll cutter user guides, assembly instructions, and troubleshooting guide. Refer to this page when a guide mentions a part you do not recognize.

Part names in text form:

Blade assembly - the circular cutting blade with a screw and nut, in fixed and bearing versions.
Belt idler - the bearing that the belt wraps around at the right panel.
Carriage - the mechanism that holds the blade and moves right and left.
Carriage arms - the spring-loaded arms on the carriage that hold the material down during a cut.
Carriage motor - the upper stepper motor that drives the carriage right and left.
Carriage travel bar - the round bar that the cutting carriage slides on.
Controller - the enclosure with the button and readout panel.
Drive/O-ring bar - the round feed bar with the rubber O-rings, driven by the feed motor.
Feed idler bar - the round bar that sits directly above the drive/O-ring bar, with bearings that turn freely.
Feed motor - the lower stepper motor that pulls the material from the roll.
Front hold-down strip - the thin flat metal strip nearest the front of the machine, usually with a notch and an intentional bend.
Front square bar - the 1/2" square metal bar nearest the front of the machine.
O-ring aligner tool - the cylinder that temporarily slides onto the drive/O-ring bar to straighten an O-ring.
O-rings - the 2" diameter rubber rings that drive the material by friction.
Rear hold-down strip - the thin flat metal strip behind the front hold-down strip.
Rear square bar - the 1/2" square metal bar behind the front square bar.
Roll clamps - the C-shaped rings that clamp onto the roll support bar.
Roll support bar - the removable round bar that goes through the material roll.
Side inserts - the rectangular shapes that snap into the side panels to retain the aluminum bars.
Side panel - the vertical metal plates that hold the bars and tubes together.
