Compact CNC forming

Closed and open pitches

The controller lets you define closed and open pitches, each with coil counts and defined pitches. You can do variable pitch springs too.

A separate release-turn setting backs the mandrel away after forming to release spring-back tension. Jog controls move the carriage or mandrel during setup, while stored hardware settings cover speed and direction.

After forming, the operator manually clips the wire using the provided clippers.

Who it is for

Bring spring work closer to the design

Product design and engineering

Make prototype compression and extension springs and helical wire parts in-house while dimensions are under development.

Repair and maintenance

Recreate replacement springs when an original part is unavailable or lead times are too long.

Research and education

Produce repeatable helical samples for laboratory work, engineering classes, robotics, and mechanism development.

Jewelry and craft work

Form consistent coils, jump rings, spacers, and decorative helical wire shapes for small-batch work.

Upcoming firmware changes may support the following applications - contact Krexil for details:

  • Springs and mechanisms: compression, extension, torsion, conical, variable-pitch, prototype, and replacement springs.
  • Electromagnetic coils: solenoid, electromagnet, relay, sensor, pickup, and simple actuator coils.
  • RF and electronics: air-core inductors, ham-radio coils, loading coils, and antenna-matching coils.
  • Heating elements: nichrome or Kanthal coils for cartridge heaters, ceramic heaters, hot-wire cutters, and laboratory heaters.
  • Research and education: search coils, calibration coils, experimental electromagnets, and engineering laboratory projects.
  • Manufacturing and cable work: coil spacers, protective wire guards, cable strain-relief springs, flexible-conduit reinforcement, and spiral cable wraps.
  • Jewelry, craft, and instruments: jewelry coils, jump rings, decorative spirals, wire sculpture, ornament forms, spring-reverb springs, and small instrument springs.

On-machine control

Set the spring from the six-button console

No separate computer is needed during forming. The firmware exposes the setup and forming commands directly on the OLED menu.

Menu

What it controls

Run

Checks the programmed travel and starts forming.

Jog

Moves the carriage or mandrel for setup.

Pitch

Sets axial spacing for each spring section.

Count

Sets the number of turns in each section.

Release #

Sets reverse turns used to release forming tension.

Hardware

Stores motor speed, direction, test, sleep, and spring-back settings.

Mandrels and spring design

Start with four included diameters

The machine includes 1.6 mm, 3 mm, 6 mm, and 12 mm mandrels. Other diameters below 12 mm are straightforward to make when a design needs a different mandrel diameter.

Finished spring diameter depends on the wire, mandrel, spring index, and spring-back. Use the free Krexil calculator to estimate finished ID, OD, overall length, spring rate, and release turns before forming.
